Get The Most From Your Blog
Have you got something to say to the world? Has blogging been something you have considered taking on? WordPress has become the popular blogging standard on the Internet and it would be a good idea to learn more about it before you begin blogging.
This article lays out some good advice that can get you started or help you on your way.
When you’re making changes to adjust your WordPress blog, you may not realize that your changes weren’t saved at all. That is usually not the case. Try clearing your browser cache to solve this problem. Press and then hold the shift key as you refresh the browser to make the changes show up.
It could be cluttered with useless items that are doing nothing but confusing your readers if you haven’t customized your WordPress sidebar. Your sidebar should only contain things you actually want visitors to click on. Navigate to Appearance & Widgets to edit the appearance of your sidebar and remove anything there that doesn’t actually benefit you or your visitors directly.
Make use of a landing page. Instead of coming directly to current posts, users will pass through this landing page first. You can use this for a variety of reasons, whether for promoting a product or promoting yourself. Many themes feature a landing page however, there are also paid options.
WordPress has many keyboard shortcuts which make working with posts a snap. For example, ctrl-c allows you to copy text, while ctrl-x lets you cut it. Ctrl-v will paste it somewhere else. Ctrl-b is bold, ctrl-i is italic and ctrl-u is underline. If you memorize them, these basic keyboard shortcuts will save you a lot of time.
Many people are responding to video blogs, so consider this option. Video blogging is not only becoming more popular, it is also becoming much easier to use. WordPress, in its current version, makes the use of video blogging easy. By drawing those who are less inclined to read, this can really increase traffic.
Keep close track of visitors to your blog. This is the only way you will be able to improve it to please your reader more. Free WordPress bloggers can use Jetpack stats to do this. Both free and paid bloggers can use Google Analytics. Be sure to make good use of both services if you can because they offer slightly different advantages.
Once in a while take the time to log out of your site, go back and look at it as a visitor. Doing so could allow you to see something that you are missing when you are logged in as an administrator. This step will not take very long, but it should set your mind at ease that everything is functioning the way that it should be.
Use images properly on yor WordPress site. They can add everything from beauty to interest to your pages. Use their alternative text tags and title tags properly. Don’t settle for generic descriptions. You need to make them specific so that your visitors know exactly what they are. This also helps them figure out what your site is about.
If your have opened up your WordPress blog for comments, be sure to monitor and moderate the comments. You do not want any inappropriate comments to appear on your blog that can be offensive to your readers. When you moderate incoming comments, you can delete spam and anything that you do not want to display to your readers.
Be sure to use a robust spam plug-in to filter out spam and bad content. People with ill-intentions are always looking for ways to spam a blog for link building purposes. This kind of spam will create a bad impression on your blog because your legitimate readers will think that your blog has security issues.
Link Building
For search engine optimization, you have to think about link building. And with link building you should always be thinking about quality and not simply quantity. One really good authoritative link can do much more for your website than a dozen poorly made links which can actually hurt your cause and site it to get bad reviews.
Now that you are gaining more insight into WordPress, you should feel more confident about getting started with it. Take what you have learned here and get started blogging for your personal benefit or, if you desire, delve into the Internet marketing world. WordPress can help you be successful with both.
